Task Before Us Is Clear

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." Matthew 5:16

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We are deeply grateful to you who have stood with us across the years with your prayers, visits and giving. This Ministry's wonderful growth could not have happened without you. We are currently facing the greatest challenge since God called us to NYC in 1989. Our family needs your prayers at this time as we cry out to God for the many miracles that are needed for the continuing growth of Prayer Station Evangelism and Discipleship in New York City and across the world. We are humbly clinging to the wonderful promise Jesus gave us in Matthew 6:33

"Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

The growth of this ministry has brought with it increasing demands for prayer, full-time workers and financial resources. Please cry out to God with us for the wisdom, grace, people and resources that are needed to address these issues.

One ongoing challenge has been keeping up with our responsibilities on this mission field and still finding time to communicate with you. This newsletter is way over due. Please forgive us for the long silence since our last newsletter. We hope to begin sending out an Email Newsletter on a regular basis that will help you and your church keep current on what God is doing on our field of labor. If you wish to receive this email newsletter please email us at

We thank God and you our faithful supporters for allowing us the honor of being a part of so many marvelous kingdom advances. The mountains before us are large but God never failed us when we faced past giants that threatened to stop his Kingdom's advance. If we continue SEEKING FIRST His KINGDOM and His RIGHTEOUSNESS God will not fail us now!

Your fellow laborers in the Great Kingdom of our Lord and Savior,

The Kiser family & HIM's Go Forth Alliance.

Homeless Man with Drug Problem a Testimony to God's Power

Washington Square Park PhotoNEW YORK CITY — Two years ago I had the Prayer Station set up in the spot you see in this picture. This is Washington Square Park. It has been known as a 'drug park' since the 60's. Robert came up to me and asked me to pray for him. He was homeless, had a drug problem and needed a job. We prayed and I helped him begin attending the Brooklyn Tabernacle. God forgave him of his sins and began to transform him. Robert soon got a job and then God helped him get his own apartment. Over and over Robert would come up to me in Brooklyn Tabernacle and share with me the great things God was doing in his life. Old things had past away. God had changed him into a wonderful brother in Christ. Robert went through discipleship and became a solid member of the church. Last year he introduced me to a fine Christian sister and let me know they were dating. This January the two of them were married. God has transformed Robert from a lost homeless drug addict in Washington Square Park into an upstanding man of God with a godly wife. How many 'Roberts' are there in your community that will respond to a Prayer Station beacon and bring glory to God because of your witness? I pray you have the joy of finding out!

Outreach Testimonies from across the Nation

God has been opening many doors for our NYC ministry to assist other ministries through Evangelism Training, Prayer Station Outreaches and ongoing support for their evangelism and discipleship efforts. Our new Go Forth Alliance name simply clarifies that this Hope International Missions ministry exists to assist dedicated Christians everywhere in the fulfillment of Christ’s commission to Go! The following testimonies highlight how God is enlarging our ministry through the labors of those we are training and working with across the nation.

Fayetteville Flea Market PhotoNORTH CAROLINA — Carl Culotta and Bill Legg set up a Prayer Station in a Flea Market in Fayetteville NC last fall and this outreach has continued every weekend since. Bill shares in the following email the response they are having with their evangelism booth:

From: Bill Legg
Date: Feb 16, 2008 9:35 PM
Subject: Flea Market

“Today was an awesome day at the Flea Market, hundreds and hundreds of encounters, many of them heart wrenching, soul searching encounters. Many people left with a lot to think about, and if I had not had some help today from Joe Salva, Gilbert Nichols and Tom Price many people would not have gotten to hear the word or received a tract. I am so thankful that they responded to my call for help. Thanks guys, I thank you and my Father thanks you. I stand amazed at how God answers prayer after prayer, meets every need, financial, tracts, books and bibles and workers. God Gives me a clear mind, a willingness, the ability to stand long hours, and compassion like I have never had before to reach out to the lost, I am just amazed, it is so hard to believe this is happening to me, it is like being on a merry go round that will not stop. The music just keeps playing, we just keep riding it around and around and I don't want to get off. I am having too much fun, I hope the music never stops cause I do not want off, this is a ride of a life time. God deserves all the glory, honor, and praise for everything that has happened or will happen as a result of this ministry, so praise His Holy Name.

Folks I do not believe I will be going to the Flea Market on Sunday afternoon, I have been there 20 hours in the last two days. So if anyone would like to go and do some witnessing feel free to use the booth. If you do not know the combination to the lock just call me and I will give you the combination. There are plenty of tracts and bibles to pass out, feel free to go and enjoy the afternoon. Please remember lock it up before leaving and make sure the coffee pot is unplugged. It should be a busy afternoon it is payday weekend. Clarence tell Dolly that I said that it would be a good weekend to take the teenagers down to the Flea Market and she could work with them. Thanks again to all those who came by today to help, AWESOME DAY it was LORD, thanks.”

SOUTH CAROLINA — Barnyard Flea Market, Greer SCRick Wofford of Greer SC was searching last December on the internet for a schedule to read through his bible in a year. We offer a free online one and his search took him to our web site www.GoForthALL.org. He got the schedule and was excited to find out about Prayer Station Evangelism. Rick watched the Prayer Station training video on our web site and sent me an email asking to come to NYC for more training. I emailed him back and let him know I would love to have him come to NYC and that I also would be traveling through his area in February and would be happy to come and train a group from his church and take them out with my Prayer Station and let them see what God would do. The picture on the right is their first day at the Barnyard Flea Market in Greer NC. God met with us as we ministered to souls that day and Rick ordered a prayer station 2 days later. They have been setting up at the Flea Market every weekend since and God has blessed their labors. Recently Rick did his best to hold back his tears as he shared with me how God had used him to see a man repent and be saved. He told me it had been 15 years since he had last led a soul to Christ. After a month of consistent outreach the Flea market vendors asked Rick to begin holding 8 am Sunday morning services at the flea market. Rick is overjoyed at the response they are receiving every week. These are great days for Christians to take the Gospel out to their local communities.

Houston Prayer Station Task Force Promotes City-Wide Prayer Station Campaign

Kim Kossie from KSBJ RadioHOUSTON, TX — Last year Colin Millar a South African with a prayer ministry in Houston Tx called 'Houston Prays' came to NYC for Prayer Station training. He called Tom in February and told him God was doing some great things in Houston and wanted to know if he could fly there and train a group. When Tom arrived he discovered that God was putting together a tremendous open door for touching lives in Houston through Prayer Station Evangelism. For three days he trained Christians from various ministries including staff from KSBJ Radio. KSBJ received the 2008 GMA/Christian Music Broadcasters (CMB) Radio Station of the Year Award for having the highest standards of quality and the strongest impact on their listening area of all Christian Stations in the United States. More women ages 25 to 54 listen to this Christian station than any other Houston radio station of any kind.

Houston MapThe day after President and General Manager of KSBJ Tim McDermott heard Tom's presentation about Prayer Stations he shared his conviction that the rollout of Prayer Stations to ministries across the Houston metro area has more potential to impact God's Kingdom than anything else the radio station has been involved in. Two days latter Kim Kossie, Community Relations Director for KSBJ and Debi Tengler flew to NYC and went out with Tom to experience the Prayer Station ministry firsthand. They interviewed many ministry leaders we have trained and Kim personally led two people to Christ. They were overwhelmed with the response of the people on the streets and the testimonies they heard. KSBJ Radio and Houston Prays have put together a Prayer Station Task Force and are now implementing a strategy to get ministries across Houston involved in Prayer Station Evangelism.

Tom Kiser Family taking needed Furlough and Strengthening Ministry while two families serve in NYC during 2008

Kiser Family Photo2007 was a very busy year as Christians from across the nation came as short-term missionaries for evangelism training and witnessing at our Prayer Stations. Our family went "full speed ahead" housing, feeding, training and leading evangelism teams in NYC. God's grace enabled us to continue to seek first the advancement of God's Kingdom and God's righteousness in the hearts of New Yorkers.

The ministry load was heavier than previous years. Our 4 oldest children, who were such important parts of our team in prior years were out of the nest away at college and moving forward with their lives. The end of 2007 found Faith requiring an extended break from serving the constant crowds of ministry teams around the dining table. After 18 years of NYC ministry without a furlough God opened the doors for our family to take a furlough from the stresses of New York. The Lake Placid Pilgrim Holiness Church graciously made their parsonage available for the our use during 2008. God has also supplied two wonderful families to carry on the ministry in NYC during the our furlough. This furlough is providing time for us to regroup as a family, get needed rest and it is also enabling Tom to have more time and opportunity to reconnect with ministry supporters and focus attention on strengthening our ministry and family.

Paul and Naomi Slozat Family —Missionary Team Leaders

Paul Slozat Family Photo Tom and Faith first met Paul Slozat in the 1980’s when the Kiser's were pastoring a church in North Western PA. They got reacquainted when Paul came with a team of 46 people to do evangelism in 2006. Paul has since returned several times to assist in evangelism and has a weekly outreach in a local grocery store in Meadville PA. The store owner has graciously permitted Paul to set up a Prayer Station inside his store. The Slozat family are filling in for the Kiser’s during some key periods in 2008 when the Holes family must be away.Slozats Team Dining

In the photo to the right Paul and Naomi Slozat provided a delicious breakfast for 25 people around the Mission House dining table before taking the large evangelism team to the streets to work at our Prayer Stations.

Shawn and Lisa Holes Family —Missionary Team Leaders

Shawn Holes Family PhotoThe Streets of Lake Placid and the area University Campus are very familiar with Shawn’s zealous witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Shawn, a frequent speaker at the Lake Placid Pilgrim Holiness Church recently spent 6 weeks traveling through the Southern U.S. preaching on university campuses, beaches and in front of night clubs. During their evangelism tour through the South, Shawn and Lisa spent time in Hobe Sound and become familiar with Hobe Sound Bible College, Hobe Sound Bible Church and Hope International Missions.

In 2007 Shawn felt God was calling him to spend time in NYC evangelizing. He asked Tom to find him an apartment for the Spring and Summer. When it became apparent that the Kiser’s needed a break to be renewed they realized God had providentially prepared Shawn and Lisa Holes to fill in for them.

Below Shawn Holes shares the life changing gospel of Jesus Christ to a crowd who assembled on a hillside in The Bronx hoping to see the Pope on his recent visit to New York City.

Rising Annual Housing costs with NYC Ministry growth create Urgent Financial Need!

When we joined with HIM we were paying $1,200 a month rent for 2 floors of the mission house. In August 2003 we began renting the Harvest Home to accommodate short-term ministry teams at $1,475 per month, this cost has not increased. In August 2005 we needed more space and began renting the final available floor of the Mission House which brought the total Mission house rent to $2,100 per month.

Graph of Annual Rent Costs

  • At time the NYC Ministry joined with HIM in 2003 we were paying $1,200 a month rent for 2 floors of the Mission House.
  • In August 2003 we began renting the Harvest Home across the street to accommodate short-term ministry teams at $1,475 per month. Upon it’s renovation Ministry opportunities swelled with this lodging capability.
  • August 2005 we began renting the final available floor of the Mission House which brought the total Mission house rent to $2,100 per month.
  • April 2006 the Landlord told us he needed to sell the house for $620,000. We communicated the serious nature of this situation with our donor base. God’s people rallied to this need and some businessmen set up the “God Size Miracle” web site to raise funds toward it’s purchase. Thousands poured in but not a sufficient enough amount to move into purchasing the property.
  • December 2006 it became apparent to the Landlord that we were not going to be able to purchase the property. He offered to take it off the market if we helped his financial situation by paying $3,000 a month rent. This price for renting a large building was a very fair NYC market price and so agreed to the increase from $2,100 to $3,000 a month rent which includes heat. He could no long afford to rent to us for below the NYC market price.
  • Immediately after this spike in our housing costs we learned that our other Missionaries were struggling to raise funds because of the large response to the God Size Miracle Project in 2006. We backed off fundraising in 2007 to give our other HIM missionaries some breathing room.

Graph of Annual HIM Income

Every Year giving increased until 2007 when we backed off fundraising efforts.

The influx of funds to the Mission House ‘God Size Miracle’ Project of 2006 made it difficult for some of our other fine HIM missionaries to raise needed funds from the HIM Donor base. In order to lessen the pressure on other HIM missionaries fundraising activities we dropped raising funds for the Mission House project, we traveled little in deputation and did not send out newsletters and appeals to our support base. The graph above shows the huge hit to our income in 2007 when we backed off fundraising. Support Income went down at the time our Housing Expenses went up. For the first time in our history our annual revenues dropped and this took place at the time that our costs were rising. This has produced a serious financial crisis! The shortfall in donations forced us to draw funds from the Mission House Project in order to pay the larger rent on the Mission House. If we do not keep up on the rent for the Mission House the landlord’s financial problems will force him to evict us or sell. Without the Mission House which is our headquarters and our main housing and training facility, there will be no ministry in New York City.

What We Are Doing to Address These Revenue Shortfalls

  1. We are endeavoring to enlarge our support base.
  2. We are working to increase our mission team income so our HIM supporters have less financial responsibility.
  3. We have cut the cost of Harvest Home rent from $1,475 to $125 a month by renting out the top floor to the Roberts Omolo family. Because we have extra room in the Mission House during the Kiser's furlough we are able to house teams in both facilities. We still have use of the dormitory floor of the Harvest Home to house teams.
  4. We have the Holes and Slozat families in NYC filling in for the Kisers and Tom is now pouring energy into enlarging our support base and strengthening the ministry so that we can experience solid growth in coming years.
  5. We are getting timely information out to those who wish to support us. To subscribe to our Email News email us at news@himnyc.org

In the last 3 months we have fallen behind on the Mission House Rent and must immediately get caught up or we will have to pull out of NYC!

We must get caught up on our rent or we will have to leave NYC and lose all the investments our family and many others have made in renovating the properties that house our New York City Ministry. If you donated money toward the purchase of the mission house please and would not like us to use these funds to cover the shortfall in the mission house rent please let us know.

We are currently saving $1,350 a month on the Harvest Home rent as detailed in the next article below but we must immediately address the shortfall in support to cover the rent for the Mission House. We need $6,500 immediately to address the current shortfall in our rent. As our mission teams pick up through the summer they bring in revenue that helps cover the rent costs but we have just come through the slow season and are behind.

Please share this serious need with your church and have them pray about the financial miracle that we need right now!

Harvest Home Rent Cut from $1,475 to $125 Photo Omolo Family

Helen and Roberts Ungus Omolo come from Kenya. Roberts serves as finance manager for a large Christian relief organization that funds a major outreach to Sudanese refugees in Africa. They are members of The Brooklyn Tabernacle and last year assisted us with the cleaning and preparation of the Harvest Home where we house short-term mission teams. They needed to find another apartment this year and when the Kisers were needing a break they volunteered to rent the first floor of the Harvest Home at their previous rent of $1,350 a month. The actual cost to our ministry for renting the 2 floors of the Harvest Home is $1,475 a month. Thus this year we have cut our monthly rent expenses for the Harvest Home from $1,475 a month down to $125 a month. Because of extra room in the Mission House during the Kiser's furlough we are able to house teams in both facilities. Helen cleans the Dormitory floor and assists in any way that is needed. We thank God for this wonderful Christian family and their service to the many teams who come.

Bring your Team to NYC this Year

We have many open dates in the next 6 months and we would be delighted to have a group from your church come and pray with people at our Prayer Stations. God will use your team on New York's streets to touch lives, it will have a powerful spiritual impact on your team and it will also help us to pay our monthly ministry expenses. Our suggested donation is $32 per person per night and we even provide you with breakfast. Each person is responsible for purchasing their own food when we are out on the street ministering. You can expect to pay $5 to $8 per meal depending on which restaurant you choose. Travel is $7 per day for an all day subway pass. If we provide you with transportation you need only pay for our vehicles' gas. Suggested length of stay is Friday to Wednesday. This allows for your training, multiple days of Prayer Station Outreach, sightseeing and attendance at The Brooklyn Tabernacles Sunday Services and Tuesday Night Prayer Meeting. Options are also available for shorter stays. Those interested in coming should email Tom Kiser at
